Cleaning UGGs: How to get them looking like new again

Why it's important to take good care of your UGGs

UGGs are made of suede , a beautiful but delicate material. When it gets wet, it can quickly stain, discolor, or harden . Dirt and sweat also easily penetrate the soft texture.

With the right cleaning routine, your suede will stay supple, soft and beautiful – and you'll never have to worry about dull, stained boots again.

What do you need?

To clean UGGs, use:

  • A soft brush
  • The First Amsterdam Cleaning Solution
  • A microfiber cloth
  • A suede eraser for small stains
  • Shoe trees
  • Optional: a shoe dryer
  • Finally: the First Amsterdam Water & Stain Repellent Spray

The biggest enemy of UGGs: water stains and rings

The most common complaint among UGG wearers? Water stains and rings .
This happens when only a portion of the suede gets wet—for example, from rain, snow, or a wet cloth. As soon as that single area dries, a ring remains.

👉 Solution: Always dampen the entire shoe evenly , even if only one spot is dirty. This will help the suede dry evenly and prevent discoloration or ring formation.

Step 1: Place shoe trees

First, place shoe trees in your UGGs. This will help them maintain their shape while cleaning and drying.

Step 2: Remove loose dirt

Use a soft brush to gently remove dust and dirt. Work from top to bottom, without water. This prevents the dirt from rubbing deeper into the suede.

Step 3: Treat small spots

For small stains, use a suede eraser .
Rub the stain gently until it disappears, then brush lightly to even out the suede.

Step 4: Clean the sole

Dip your brush in water and shake it well—damp, not wet. Apply a small amount of cleaning solution and scrub the sole in small circles.
Then pat dry with a microfiber cloth , making sure to also clean the edges.

Step 5: Clean the suede

Dip your brush in water again, add a small amount of Cleaning Solution and brush in circular motions over the entire shoe.

When wearing colored UGGs, always test on an inconspicuous area first.
Make sure you moisten the suede evenly all over to prevent rings.

Step 6: Pat dry

Gently blot with a clean microfiber cloth to absorb excess moisture.
Do not rub – this may damage the material or affect the color.

Step 7: Let it dry

Let your UGGs dry naturally in a well-ventilated area.
Do not place them near a heater or in direct sunlight – this can cause the suede to harden or discolour.

If necessary, use a shoe dryer for a faster and more even result.

Step 8: Soften Suede Again

When your UGGs are completely dry, the suede may sometimes feel a little stiff.
Use the rubber side of a suede brush to gently roughen the material. This will restore its velvety-soft texture.

Step 9: Protect for the future

Protect your clean UGGs with the First Amsterdam Water & Stain Repellent Spray .
This invisible layer prevents water and dirt from penetrating as quickly – ideal for preventing new circles and stains.

Conclusion

Cleaning UGGs is easier than you think.
With the right products, a soft brush and some attention, they will remain beautiful for years to come.

Make it a habit to clean your UGGs regularly—especially after rain or if you see stains forming. This will keep them soft, clean, and comfortable , season after season.
